The postbag

Maire reads everything. She answers anything that asks.

Roughly forty messages arrive each month and every one that contains a question gets a reply, usually within four working days. If you are arguing a game into the queue, tell us what it does that nothing else does — that is the case that works.

There is no automated triage and no ticketing system. Choose a subject so the note lands with the right writer, and give us enough detail that a reply can be useful.

The workshop is not open to visitors, but letters do get read at the table on Thursdays. Two of our most useful accessibility corrections arrived this way.

What we will not do

We do not sign non-disclosure agreements, accept briefing documents that specify emphasis, or agree to publish before we have finished a game. Approaches offering payment for earlier assessment are declined and named in the next digest.

Corrections

What happens when you tell us we are wrong

Recent examples, all of which came from readers rather than from us noticing.

Recent corrections, what was wrong and what we did
Piece What we got wrong What we did
Harrowgate Ledger Overstated how long the map generator stays interesting Durability band moved down 18 points, correction note at the top, original paragraph left in place
Coppice Rule Claimed text scaling existed; the option is present but does not affect the ledger screens Reachable band moved down 9 points, wording corrected, reader credited
Three Wells Named the wrong studio for the soundtrack Fixed within a day, note kept at the foot of the piece
The Pumphouse Year Described a remap as working mid-chapter when it only applies at a save point Wording corrected, volunteer tester credited, method note added to the scoring page

Our rule is simple and not negotiable: the correction goes above the text, the original stays underneath, and the person who caught it gets named if they want to be. If you find something wrong, choose Report a factual error in the form above and it will be looked at that week.

The queue

Ordered by argument, not by volume

Nineteen games are currently in the queue. Position is decided at the table on the strength of the case made for each one, which means a single well-argued letter regularly beats forty identical requests.

The three at the top this cycle are there because readers explained something specific: an economy that punishes hoarding, a control scheme designed for one hand, and a forty-hour game that apparently has no filler in it. We will find out.

I wrote asking you to look at a small strategy game nobody had covered. You replied within a week explaining exactly why it was going in at position eleven rather than position one. That was more respect than I expected.

I reported an error about a remap and you named me in the correction. Small thing, but it is the reason I read you rather than anyone else.
